WANGANUI CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP AT BELMONT RESULTS OF THE FINALS Some interesting gon was provided by the finalists- in tho contests for the Wanganui Gulf Club championships at Belmont. The game in which most interest was displayed was the final of the Senior Championship, in which the finalists were B. M. Silk and W. B. Reilly, who had made a special trip down from Patea for the purpose. The end came at Bunker’s Hill, Silk winning 4 up and 2 to play. Silk played splendidly throughout, his driving having plenty of power be hind it, while his approaching and .jutting was of a very high class. The fact that he went out in 37 will give some indication of the quality of tho golf be was producing. On the other hand, Reilly was very much off his game and was pulling his drive off the fairw'ay time and again. At Long Tom he had the misfortune to lose a ball when 4 down, and at Alma he had to play his second from an impossible lie, and putled his third out of bounls, having to give up the hole and carry on dorniy 5. At the first hole Reilly pulled his drive and his third was short, while Silk was on to the right of the green with his second. Reilly was well on the green with his fourth, and he had a chance when Silk just failed to get there with a long putt. However, Reilly missed his putt and conceded the hole. —Silk 1 up. Reilly again pulled his drive at Balgownie, played a poor second and partly topped his third into a bunker. He made a brilliant recovery, however, and was within sinking distance with his fourth. Silk slightly topped his second into a bunker and was short with his recovery, taking two putts and they halved tho hole.

Both played well at Dress Circle, being on the green in two and down in 4, another half being recorded. The fourth found Reilly again in the rough to the left with his drive, while his third hit a mound and stopped. He was on the edge of the green with his fourth. Silk’s mashie shot was well on and his long putt was 2ft. from the hole. Reilly played a splendid long put - but failed to sink it, and Silk took the hole in 5 to 6.—Silk 2 up. A f Seaview Silk registered a striking 2, being on the edge of the green with hi.- tee shot and chipping up with rare judgment to find the hole. Reilly found himself in a bunker 1 ut recovered well. His effort, however, was of no avail.— Silk 3 up. Silk outdrove Reilly at Redan and his second was on the near edge of he green. Reilly was 12ft. from the pin with his third and sank a nice putt, while Silk, who had laid his dead, halved in 4.

Both had good drives at the seventh, but Reilly’s second was off the fairway, landing alongside the Redan tee overlooking the green. He was well on the green with his third, a little nearer than Silk’s. Silk just over-ran with his putt and they halved in 5. At tho Quarries both played good drives and Reilly a brilliant second. It was an excellently played hole, another half resulting. Reilly was in a bunker with his second at Land’s End, hut ho was well out, only to be short with his long putt, conceding the holo to Silk, who had laid his long putt dead.—Silk 4 up. Commencing the homeward journey Silk was on the left of the green at the Slope, and Reilly short with his tee shot. Silk .chipped up too strong but laid his long putt on the lip of the hole. Reilly was nicely on but failed to hole his putt and they halved in fours.

At Long Tom Reilly pulled his drive into the water at the foot of the ridge, the ball being lost, and he conceded the hole. —Silk 5 up. At Terawhiti Reilly retrieved the situation somewhat, being well on with his tee shot, while Silk was through to the far edge of the green with his drive and short with his second. A weak putt by Silk enabled Reilly to notch a hole.—Silk 4 up. Further disaster was in store for Reilly at Alma, for his pulled drive was on the ridge in an almost impossible lie. He was just out with his second, and his third was out of bounds, losing another hole.—Silk dormy 5. Reilly had a good drive at the 14th and Silk’s was just oil the fairway but well in sight of the green. He duffed his third and was well on in 4. Reilly played his third over bunker and sank a long putt to win the hole.—Silk 4 up. At French Pass Reilly was well on and Silk was pin high to the right. Silk was a; little strong with his putt and was half stymied for his third, Reilly winning the hole—Silk dormy 3. The end came at the 16th. Reilly had a good drive and a good second, just to the left of the green, chipping on to the green over a bunker. Silk narrowly missed the bunker to the right of the green and laid his third a foot from the pin. When Reilly’s long putt trickled round the can and failed to go in Silk won 4 up and two to play. In the Imlay Cup final in tho morning Silk was far too consistent for Blyth and won, 4 up and three to play. His approach putting was to good for his opponent, and his round of 75 was excellent. In the middleweight final W. G. Scanncll won from R. E. Hewat 2 up and one to play. The Junior Championship resulted in D. R. Robertshaw winning from J. V. Blyth at the 18th. hole. Blyth, ho has

years in succession, was lup when they got to the 17th, but when he was put: ting the wind carried his putt out of line to knock Robertshaw’s ball in and make the game all square. At the J Bth Robertshaw holed out from off the green to win, 1 up. The medal match on Saturday resulted in a tie in the A grade, while D. L. Blyth won the B grade, tho leading scores being as follows:
