WANGANUI SALE

i SHEEP FIRM ON LATE SALES. Messrs Freeman R. Jackson and Co. Ltd., report on yesterday’s Wanganui sale as follows:—A full yarding of .sheep camo forward as advertised, to a good attendance of buyers. The sheep sale was quite a bright one, firm on recent sales, with practically a total clearance. The cattle pens in the store section consisted of fat cattle with an odd pen of forward heifers and bullocks, over which we had 9 fair sale. The dairy section, for, the most part, comprised nondescript and backward cows and heifers which met a dull and lifeless sale. Shortage of feed is undoubtedly effecting this class of stock, buyers being very short al the present time. A small entry of pigs met with a ready sale, showing an advance on last week’s sale. (Quotations:— Sheep.—Light fat wethers, .16s 6d to 17s 7d; light fat ewes, 14s 3d to 14s 6d; forward ewes, 10s; two-tooth wethers, Ils 7d to 14s; fat hoggets, Ils to 13s 6d; forward b.f. hoggets, 10s; medium ewe hoggets, 9s to 10s 3d; wether hoggets, 8s 4d to 9s Id; small m.s. hoggets, 6s 3d to 7s 6d. Cattle.—Fat cows, £3 10s to £4 15s. forward Hereford bullocks, £5 ss; forward P.A. heifers, £ 310 s; forward Hereford heifers, £3 7s 6d; store cows. 15s to 355. Dairy Cattle.—Good second calvers (close up) to £7 10s; dairy cows in milk, £4 10s to £5 ss; good qualify springing heifers, £4 5s to £5 10s; backward dairy heifers, £2 5s to £3 10s; aged and inferior cows, £1 to £2. Pigs.—Good porkers, to £2 ss; stores, 26s to 27s 6d; good well-bred weaners, 26s 6d to 80s; weaners, 16s 6d to 23s 6d; small weaners, 14s; light vealers. 25s to 30s.

BEEF AND MUTTON DOWN. [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 19. There were heavy entries in the major sections at the weekly market at Addington to-day, the principal features being a decline in beef and mutton values as a result of an over sunpJy. •Store Sheep.—A fairly large entry with a good proportion of better-class ewes offering. A dragging sale with an easing in values. Good four and sixtooth half-bred ewes plain and aged 3s 6d to 6s 4d, extra good ewe hoggets 15s 6d to 16s 3d, ordinary ewe hoggets to 9s 7d, ordinary wether hoggets 6s to 9s, good 4 and 6-tooth half-bred wethers 13s 6d to 15s 6d, plain to 7s 3d. •Spring Lambs.—A very small entry. Values for sterr beef were easier by up to 30s a head and values ranged to 32s a 1001 b. for primest sorts, 27s to 30s for medium weight, 23s to 26s for heavy weight, to 28s for good heifer beef, to 24s for best cow, 19s to 23s for medium cow, down to 15s for rough beef. Heavy porkers 42s 6d tn 46s 6d; average price a lb. sid to 6-Jd. SALE AT WESTFIELD BEEF MARKET FIRM. ( Per Press Association. J AUCKLAND. Aug. 19. Values for beef closed firm at late advanced quotations at the weekly Westfield fat stock sale. The yarding was larger than usual and competition was keen. Values for cow and heifer beef eased a fraction, otherwise the market was firm. Extra choice ox made up to 30s per lOOlbs., choice and prime 27s to 295, secondary and plain 23s to 265, prime young cow and heifer beef 24s to 265, other kinds 21s to 235. Heavy prime steers made from £9 10s to £l2 17s 6d and heavy prime young cows and heifers £7 5s to £9.

Another very large yarding of sheep saw values for prime wethers and ewes firm at about late rates. Inferior and travel-worn sorts were sold at slightly lower prices than those of a week ago. Calves were again yarded in large numbers and values revealed an easing tendency for small and poor looking kinds. What good pens were offered sold at late rates. Prices for store pigs advanced somewhat as a result of competition among farmers for pigs to be used in conjunction with the new milking season. Bid. ding was very dull for fat pigs and values dropped by about 7s a head for baconers and 4s for porkers. THE BULLS SALE SATISFACTORY CLEARANCE. Associated Live Stock Auctioneers, Ltd. had a fair entry of sheep and large yarding of cattle and pigs at their Bulls sale on Monday, when a very satisfactory clearance was effected. Quotations: — Sheep.—Ewe hoggets, Us 9d, 12s 4d, 12s lOd; wether hoggets, 9s 8d; b.f. hoggets, 8s lid; small hoggets, ss, 7s 2d; fat hoggets. 13s; fat ewes, 15s 9d, 17s 6d.

Cattle.—Dairy cows, £2 10s, £2 15s, £3 £0 15s: £4 2s 6d, £5, £6 7s 6d; springing heifers, £6, £6 10s, £6 15s; fat cows, £4 ss; a number of store cows and heifers and backward calvers sold from 15s to £2 10s. Pigs.—264 were penned and 214 sold. ■Weaners, 16s, 18s 6d, 20s; slips, 21s. 23s 6d; stores. 24s 6d, 255, 26s 6d, 275, 28s, 295, 30s; porkers, 34s 6d, 35s 6d« sow to farrow, £6.

Associated Live Stock Auctioneers Ltd. report on their Marton sale held on Tuesday as under: —We yarded a good entry of sheep, cattle and pigs, which realised the following prices. Ewe hoggets, medium quality 12s Id to 12s 6d, wether hoggets medium qua! ity 8s 8d; fat wethers, good sheep to 18s 6d, fat black-face lambs 13s; weaner pigs from 15s 6d, 16s 6d to 20s 6d; slips to 235; springing cows from £2. £4, £4 17s 6d, £5 17s 6d to £6 10s; cows calved to £9 2s 6d; springing heifers £5, £5 ss, £5 17s 6d, £6 10s to £7 7s 6d; fat cows £4 Is.
