SCHOOL AGRICULTURE

THE INSTRUCTOR'S REPOR I WORK OF THE PAST MONTH. The Chief Agricultural .1 instructor to the Wunganui Education Board (Mr J. Brydon Hogg) report* s To yesterday meeting as follows: “On account of the very wet conditions prevailing outdoor operations are practically at a standstill. Where green crops have been sown these will be dug in as weather permits, and as early as possible to allow of rotting down prior to sowing. All schools have an arranged scheme of plot work and it is hoped to obtain more definite results by attention to the preliminary lessons. “Indoors work is well ahead, and in most schools the course is well under way and should be completed and summarised in good time. Steady improvement is noted in tho note book records and this phase of the work may be said to be very soundly treated of by the majority of teachers. “Reports: We can definitely report that the experiment of supplying these in the mid-year is not a success. The time at. our disposal at this period of the year does not permit of having these completed en bloc, and we suggest that the furnishing of the reports in December, as in the past, be reverted to. Those outstanding will be supplied during the vacation. “Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs: As an outcome of the recent meetings at Foilding and Wanganui I shall have a report prepared for your consideration. Much useful discussion took place at these meetings, and new conditions adopted will, we hope, enable the movement to be carried on as in the past but with a greatly reduced expenditure, without in any way impairing the value of th* s work. As soon as printed, full detailed reports of the past season’s work will be submitted to you. “Arbor Day: The celebration of this as advised in the Board’s recent circular is receiving attention. The Forestry Department is supplying trees free to schools and a number of school! have taken advantage of the offer.”
