DRAMA OF THE SEA. GEORGE BANCROFT FEATURED. “Derelict, 77 the George Bancroft starring Paramount picture, which is now at the Grand Theatre, is real drama, filmed on a spectacular scale. Mountainous ships battling monster seas; terrific tropical storms; a rescue at sea; two vessels crashing head-on in a dense fog. Bancroft is seen as a belligerent, twofisted sea captain, lighting to keep a sluggish tramp steamer afloat through the fury of a tropical storm. Out of the angry night comes the frantic staccatto signal of a ship in distress — *3.0.8.' *S.O.S. 7 —and he knows that, aboard the floundering craft is the one man in the world he hates, and the woman who double-crossed him. That ’s the climactic situation of “Derelict. 77 Paramount went to sea to film this picture, which was taken almost entirely aboard ship, off the coast of southern California. Nine ships, equipped with all the required filming paraphernalia, comprised the fleet, and a number of technical experts directed operations.
