HIGHER WICKETS USE IN CANTERBURY MATCHES “HAVE COME TO STAY’’ It is more than likely that the higher wickets will be used in the senior and junior grade competition matches during tho coming season. This information was given out by Air W. Simpson, chairman of the Canterbury Cricket Association, at a meeting of sub-asso-ciation delegates last Tuesday evening. Mr W. Winsor said that, under the M.C.C. rules, both sizes came within the law. Air W. C. Aitken (City and Suburban) raised the question, and asked the chairman if the Canterbury Cricket Association was going to use the larger wickets for its competitions next season. “The sub-associations would like to know, as they cannot afford to change over,’’ he said. The chairman (Air W. Simpson) said it might depend on the expense to be incurred, but so far the question had not been discussed by the centre. It would probably come up at tho next meeting. A member of the North Canterbury Association said that he thought it was unnecessary to have the higher wickets. Air W. Winsor said that the associations could use either the 8-inch by 27inch wickets or the 9-inch by 28-inch wickets, as both sizes came within the M.C.C. rules. “We are within our rules in playing either wickets,” he concluded. “As far as our association is concerned,’’ said Air Simpson, “we might use the higher wickets for the first and second grades and leave the lower wickets to the other grades.” Mr Winsor: The big wickets have come to stay. It w;/ decided that if tho sub-asso-ciation teams wanted the higher wickets for the senior games they would be able to borrow them.
