Smith was released on a bon* to be of good behaviour for three years The Judge said it was quite obviou that she came under the control an* influence of Clegg whose defalcations according to the police, amount t £200,000. A prominent solicitor, William Clegg and Mrs Smith, his clerk, were indict cd on many charges of fraud ami mis representation and were convicted a the quarterly sessions after a prolonge* trial. The woman was recommended t< mercy and both were remanded fo: sentence.
