CIGARETTE COUPONS
OPINION OF TOBACCONISTS I SYSTEM CONDEMNED AUCKLAND, Aug. 13. Satisfaction with the proposal to abolish the coupon system as from April 30 next was expressed by the Auckland Tobacconists’ Association last evening, when the Trading Coupons Bill, recently introduced in Parliament, was discussed. Several speakers condemned the cou L pen system as it applied to ciga relets, and the opinion was expressed that, if the Bill went through in its present general form, coupons would no longer be placed in cigarette packets, as it was unlikely that the promoters of the scheme would be willing to redeem the coupons for cash. One member said the sooner the trade was placed on its former footing, the better it would be. A motion, condemning the coupon system, was passed without dissent, although one or two members felt it would be wiser to express no opinion in view of the likelihood of the Bill being passed this session.
