PENNY AN OUNCE INCREASE DECISION OF ASSOCIATION AUCKLAND, Aug. 13. The price of all tobacco is to be increased by one penny an ounce, according to a decision made by the Auckland Tobacconists’ Associatior last evening. It was stated that the full effect of the increased costs was not being pass- i ed on tothe public. The duty on cut and plug tobaccos was recently increased by Is 4d a pound, but the wholesalers are charging the retailers Is 6d and Is 7d a pound more in order to cover the surtax. An increase in price has already been made in some shops, but that is said to be due-to the necessity for drawing on new stocks. The general increase will apply from to-day.
