••WHAT A WIDOW” SPECIAL MATINEE A special matinee for the furtherance of the popular baby Plunket Society’s campaign is to be held at the Regent this afternoon. The whole of the programme has been selected with the view of providing something out of the ordinary, and the picture “ Seven Days’ Leave,” from J. M. Barrie’s tremendous stage success, <( The Old Lady Shows Her Medals,” is sure to be a huge attraction. The matinee starts at the usual time, half-past two, and the supports are in keeping with the high standard of the main film. “What a Widow!” Gloria Swanson—the emotional actress—has become again Gloria Swanson, comedienne. From her highly dramatic mother role in “The Trespasser,” she has turned to the field of comedy to achieve another triumph as the ■ lashing madcap referred to in the title of “What a Widow!” her new United Artists’ picture, showing finally to-day at the Regent Theatre. “What a Widow!” is nothing like tho tomfoolery in the picture at the start of her screen career. It is perhaps the' most pretentious picture she has ever produced. In the matter of clothes, she has surpassed all her previous records. There are clothes for morning, afternoon and evening wear in profusion — clothes suitable for everything from riotous comedy in street scenes, to the well ordered magnificence of a formal reception in her Paris town house.
