ACCOUNT OR COST ASKED FOR [ Per Press Association. ] INVERCARGILL. Aug. 13. The council of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce to-day passed a resolution that the Minister in charge of Tourist and Health resorts be requested to furnish a statement of revenue and expenditure connected with the Afilford resort, with a view to the Chamber submitting suggestions fnr minimising tho loss. Tn introducing the subject Air John Gilkison said the costs of Government, expenditure in all directions needed to be drastically curtailed. He wished to move that the Afinister be asked to furnish a statement, of capital outlay on the track, hostels and all branches of the service, including the gross takings and expenditure, and that the Minister be informed that if n return was supplied tho Chamber might be able to offer suggestions for reducing tho heavy loss. Air L. S. Sponee said tho expenditure on tho hostel building had been far too lavish. The Alilford Hostel was much too elaborate and was ahead nf its time.
