THE WANGANUI SALE SHEEP IN DEMAND Messrs Freeman K. Jackson, and Co. Ltd. report as follows on yesterday's Wanganui sa;c:—We had a medium entry in all sections with only a fair attendance*. The entry of pigs failed to come forward, the vendor failing to notify us, and as a result a good attendance of pig buyers were rather disappointed, particularly those who had come front Waverley and district. We had quite a good sale in the sheep c clien, the store cattle pens comp. inostiy fat cattle. Several pens in this section showed the affects of the recent rough weather and had slipped in condition. As a result, sales on this class were hard to effect. Good dairy cows close to profit ami good condition sold from late rates but backward sorts were again neglected. A further sharp increase in values for prime ox and cow beef was recorded at the weekly Westfield fat stock sale to-day. I'rime quality beef made up to 2s per 1001 b over late rates, extra choice ox sold to 30s per 1001 b, choice and prime, 27s to 295, secondary and plain 24s to 265, prime young cow and heifer beef 24s to 28s, ordinary 20s to 235. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £lO to £l2 15s, heavy prime £9 5s to £lO 17s fid. lighter prime £7 10s to £8 12s fid, smaller £3 15s to £7 7s 6d. THE MARTON SALE ALL ROUND IMPROVEMENT New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Co. Ltd. report having had a good yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs at the above sale on August 11. The market showed an all-round improvement and the great majority of the offering was sold at prices satisfactory to vendors. Wo quote: Shorn fat wethers. 14/6 to 15/8; fat lambs, 13/- to 14/9; forward iambs, 11/6 to 12/-; ewe hoggets, 12/9, 13/1 to 14/3; empty ewes, 7/3; 2-tooth ewes s.b.r., 16/-; 2-tooth ewes, Rom. ram., 16/6. There was a much keener demand for dairy stock close to calving and anything showing quality was eagerly sought after. Best heifers made £7, £9, to £9/5/0; later sorts, £5 to £6/2/6- backward and poor condition were as usual not wanted; springing cows, £4/5/0, £6/5/0 to £7/12/6; empty cows, 25s to £2.
