"GIVE US THAT MONEY”

MASKED MEN’S DEMAND ST. JOHN’S HILL HOLD-UP A MIDNIGHT SENSATION GUNSHOT WOUND IN LEG Wakened just before one o’clock this morning by two masked men who entered his tent and demanded money, a man named Clifford Charles Organ refused point-blank, whereupon one of the maurauders shot him in a leg with a pea-rifle. Organ was admitted to the Wanganui Hospital at an early hour. The tent in which Organ lives w’as pitched near the three-mile peg on the Great North Road, a couple of miles from the St. John’s railway crossing half a mile past the Friends’ School It was not until the masked men disturbed him that Organ was aware that anything was amiss, and their abrupt demand: “Give us that money,” took him unawares. Nothing daunted and in spite of his disadvantage Organ snatched at the mask on one man’s face before he was shot by the other assailant. Organ managed to reach the house of a neighbour where he rang the police. The alarm was raised and within a few minutes Detective Walsh and Sergeant Dunford were on the way to the scene of the outrage, while Organ was removed to the Wanganui Hospital. The injured man, Organ, who, it is understood, is in his twenties, has a contract cutting wood in the vicinity and had some 200 cords of firewood stacked there. A suspect has been detained.
