Energetic committees are working hard to raise funds to further the great work oi the Plunkct Society, and every t day brings news “of various social func- t lions being held fur the candidates in b the baby contest. b Mrs R. L. Thompson and Mrs A. K. c Merrington were responsible for the ar- x rangement of a very successful “bring a and buy” day held on Tuesday in the; c Wanganui East Plunkct rooms in aid of; i the candidates, Margaret Thompson and ! i Prudence Nicholls. Many of the moth- 1 ers worked well to help make the stall; la success and brisk business resulted. ! " On Monday evening the Gonvillcl ' committee held an enjoyable and suc-p cessful dance in the Masonic Hall for| ' the Castlecliff and Gonville candidates.' 1 Susan Wright and William Nichollj 1 Tucker. Yesterday a “shop day ” was held | 1 by the Westmere Women’s Institutej 1 tu further the interests of the St.| * John’s Hill candidate, Kathryn Hat-1 1 rick. The helpers at the stalls were I 1 Mrs J. J. O’Reilly, Mrs J. Laird, Mrs! I G. Han J ley, Mrs M. Laird, Mrs Bid-{ 1 dock and Miss Dawes. Mrs J. Goss, junr., of Wanganui East.i 1 was hostess at a social afternoon yes-t ( terday given fur the Wanganui East ' candidate in the Plunkct Baby Carni : val. A pleasant time was spent in com ( ■petitions, and a programme was drawn! c up for future efforts on behalf of this l baby. Bowls of spring flowers ami ! pussy-willow formed artistic decora- 1 tions. Among those present were Mes- / dames Horsley, Willis, B. Jones, Walpole, Annabel, Bellringer, E. Wills, Mer- J rington, Moulder, L. R. Thompson and Misses Horsley and Willis. Furthering one of the most deserving campaigns that has come before the Wanganui public for some time the : management of the Kegent Theatre has decided that a matinee shall be held on Friday afternoon, the proceeds of which will go to the Plunkct Baby Contest. ' The actual picture that will be shown ! has not yet been decided, but it is sure to be one that is really worth while. ‘ The matinee is to be held at a time when the school children will be ableto attend.
