PLAIDS ARE FASHIONABLE

Big plaids, little plaids, Highland plaids and subtle plaids are one and all important issues this spring, and will be seen not only in trimming touches in belts, scarves, and collars and cuffs, but also to fashion entire dresses. It is said that as many as 20 of the Highland clans will be represented in the patterns worn by fashionable women. But equally interesting are the subtle, broken plaids—designs so indefinite a H only to suggest their relation to the family of plaids. colours, as navy, chartreuse, and orange on an eggshell ground; others are simply effective in one or two tones of a colour on white. M hole frocks of plaid fabrics will be worn by very youthful types, while a larger public will find blouses, hat bands, scarves or kerchiefs, a satisfying answer of how to express the new patterns. Many of the blouses and blousettes of plaids are worn over the skirt. This model is newer than the tuck-in, and in a great many instances, more becoming. Often they are nipped in at the waistline or belted. The surplice and the double breasted effect are particularly good just now. In the two-piece frock, plaids will figure prominently. A plain coloured jersey blouse with a plaid woollen skirt is one of the favourites for sports wear but quite as frequently a plaid blouse is worn with a monotone woollen suit. Cottons and linens for beach wear are also coming out in plaids, and make the simple, tubable sports dresses that so many like for morning hours. These fabrics also fashion winsome school frocks for small girls, and are practical because they do not show soil quickly.
