A SPLENDID TRIBUTE

KEW ZEALAND, MOTOR-CYCLIST (From Our Correspondent.) MARTON, Aug. 11. Writing under date July 9, 1931, to the secretary of the New Zealand AutoCycle Union (Mr A. Way), J. A. Prestwich and Co., j_,td., contractors to the Admiralty, War Office, Colonial and Foreign Governments, Tottenham, London, who are also makers for the J.A.P. motors, states:— “I feel that I should write to you to let you know exactly my impression of 11. Tolley in his riding capacity in the Tourist Trophy. 1 have been all the time on the Island during the practising and having had an opportunity of studying him as a rider. “Besides being a most charming fellow, who has made many friends in this country, 1 think that for a first appearance on a tortuous course such as the T.T. course is, he made a most excellent showing indeed. “His all-out riding is excellent, while his cornering is superb, and many remarks were passed both during practice and during the races, that for a rider whose first time it was on the course he showed up a great deal better than many riders who have ridden the race for years. “I cannot speak too highly of him in every way, and 1 can assure you that it was a very great pleasure for me to be able to assist him in getting machines, and also to the mechanics which we had over on the Isle of Man, who did work for him. He so impressed himself on us that wc all hope to see him back next year, and trust that your Union will choose him as one of the New Zealand representatives.’’
