WALK OVER 108 MILES

UNIVERSITY STUDENT’S FEAT LONG CANTERBURY TRAMP D. D. Thorpe, a Canterbury College student who undertook to walk from Christchurch to Ashburton and back, a distance of 108 miles, in 48 hours or less, accomplished his purpose last -week covering the distance in 46 hours 30 minutes. Air Thorpe arrived at College House after completing the return journey at 3.30 o’clock in the afternoon, being greeted by an enthusiastic gathering of fellow-students. He had been paced in from Rolleston by a fellow-student. He finished with a great burst, almost running from Soekburn into town. Except for blistered feet, Mr Thorpe was lit, though rather tired. His first request was for a good hot bath. His actual walking time for 10 r miles was about 33 hours, an average of a little over three miles an hour.
