RUGBY FOOTBALL. The Wallace Cup match played at Sanson on Saturday between Oroua and Te Kawau attracted a fair number of spectators. The game was fast and interesting, the final result being in doubt up to the final whistle. To Kawau winning by 9 points to 6. Tries were scored for the winners by L. Moffatt and M. Moffatt, W. Scott kicked a penalty goal. The scores for Oroua were a penalty kicked by Beard and a goal from a mark, kicked by Metes. At the conclusion of the game Mr Watt (Ooua) in a brief speech congratulated the winners and said ho had no doubt but that the best team had won. On handing the Cup to Mr Fagan CTe Kawau) Mr Watt called on the Oroua team for three cheers for the Te Kawau team. Mr Fagan, in responding, ;ai l ho was pleased rith the success and remarked that Te Kawau had been successful once before in winning the Cup but that they had a long way to go to reach Oroua Sub-Union with th ' ; r seven wins. Apart from the Cup, Mr Fagan added that tho tho games between the two sub-unions wore always pleyed with tho best of good fooling. He called on Te Kawau to give cheers for the losing team. Harris and Board headed a rush to the blue half. A free kick to blue sent play back again and another free kick to blue gavo Beard a chance to goal which was accepte 1, putting Oroua 3 up within a few minutes. Tho black forwards got away and a free kick to black M. Moffatt missed a shot at goal. After an exchange of kicks Carey found the line well in the black half. Tattle secured from a scrum and the black forwards headed by Staite, Bearce and Marsh to the blue twenty-five. A free to Rlue found the line at centre. Blacks were opening tho game at every opportunity but. the tackling was sound. The blues slowly worked play to the Diack twenty-five. Tattle gaining ground with a nice kick. The bounce of the ball beating M. Moffatt looked dangerous, but Tattle was handy. W. Scot.i. and the Moffatts got away and we r c halted at the blue twenty-live. Tattle sent out to Lapwith who kicked, Barrell taking a mark. Blue forwards were steadily gaining ground and blacks had to force. The black forwards came away and during a tusstle in the blue twenty-five, a free to black saw W. Scott even the scores with a penalty The blue forwards carried play to the black twenty-five but M. Moffatt lined at the centre. The blue pressed for a while, Tattle sent his backs away and handling nicely the blacks beat the opposition for L. Moffatt to get icros-: at the corner . M. Moffatt, misled tbe kb k at goal. The hire kick-off was taken by L. Moffatt who found the lin. at centre. A high kick from the blues was mulled by Royal, and blues press,' 1 hard. Lapwith gaining ground with a good kick. The black forwards took play to the blue twenty-five. Barrell’.® kick was taken by L. Moffatt, who handed on to M. Moffatt for a try at

the corner. W. Scott failed with the kick. Half-time sounded soon after. Blacks opened the second half and a blue rush was luckily stopped by Royal with a speculator. The black forwards got away and pressed for a time. The Dlue.s steadily worked their way to the black twenty-five, Lapwith taking a mark . The blue backs were opening the game but the handling was faulty and M. Moffatt with a good kick found the line close to the blue goal. W. Scott had a pot shot at goal but missed. The blues again slowly worked play to tho black twenty-five and a mis-kick by M. Moffatt was marked by Miles who kicked a nice goal, making the scores: Te Kakau 9, Oroua 6. Play was fast and exciting and a strong blue attack was nearly ending in a score. Royal was caught wtih the ball on the black line, a five-yard .-crum resulting. In a flash play went back to the blue line, Tattle, Bearce, Staite and Marsh being in the van, Barrell finding the line. The blacks opened up their play but could not get across and a good kick by a blue back gained some ground. Blay was up and down the field the spectators being provided with plenty of thrills, both sides losing scoring chances. The final whistle sounded with play at the centre. The local school have three representatives kicked to play for Mnnawatu schools in the tournament to be held at Afasterton. The lucky boys are Lloyd Harris, Clive Oppatt and Andrew.
