GOLF TAPLIN CUP MATCH The challenge match for the Taplin Cup was played last Thursday, when the Patea Ladies’ Golf Club successfully defended the challenge. Out of six matches Patea won four, and one game was halved. An inter-club match w’as played between eleven of the Patea and Hawera Club members during the same afternoon, and here igain the home team were victorious, winning eight of the games. Results ire as follow, Patea players being mentioned first: —’ Taplin Cup Miss Gibson (hep. 11) beat Miss E Burgess (11). Miss Hurley (11) beat Miss Richardson (13). Mrs Glenny (19) all square with Mrs Whitehead (19). Miss Hemingway (19) beat Mrs Rota (19). Miss Taylor (19) lost to Miss Pease (19). Miss Gilligan (19) beat Mrs McAnerin (21). Inter-Club Match Mrs Mcßae beat Miss G. Death. Mrs Bremer lost to Mrs Dickie. Miss Harris beat Miss Hawken. Miss Bourkc lost to Miss V. Death. Miss Crawford lost to Mrs Baigcnt. Miss M. Hurley beat Mrs Corey. Miss Carey beat 'liss Ryan. Miss O’Sullivan beat Mrs Gibson. Mrs Withers beat Mrs Vinnicombe. Miss Finlay beat Mrs Fearon. Miss F. Hemingway beat Miss
FOOTBALL Matches for the local teams to-day are as follow: —Seniors v. Hawera, at Patea; Juniors v. Athletic, at Hawera; Thirds v. Athletic, at Patea. The following will be the team to represent the local club in the senior match: Spooner. Bloor, McDowell, Gray. Petersen, Zimmerman, Bourke, Crawford. Baldwin. Richards, Wills, Bremer, Walker, Hamblyn and Couch. PERSONAL Mr Tyrell Smith, Wellington, luv been on a visit to Patea, and stayed with his aunt, Mrs W. T. Simmons. Miss Hammond, who has been the guest of Miss Kelly, matron of the Patea Hospital, has returned to New Plymouth. Miss E. Bourke is at present on holiday in Palmerston North, and Feilding. where she is staying with relations. BRIDGE EVENING The third of a series of bridge evenings in aid of parish funds was held in St. George’s schoolroom last Tuesday, when there was a fair attendance. Prizes for top scores were awarded to Mrs G. Pettigrew and Mr W. C. Glenny. It was decided to hold these evenings in private homes in the future.
