THE GIRL GUIDES The annual meeting of tho Afangaweka Girl Guides was held in the Guides’ Hall on Tuesday, June 23. The following ladies were present: Airs Painnan, district commissioner and chairwoman; Airs J. Graham, Airs Kirkby, Airs Dickinson, Airs Lawson, Mrs Sweet, Airs Waymouth, Airs Blake, Airs Waugh, Airs Watson, Aliss Trewby, Aliss Handtion, Aliss AfcNeill and Aliss Dawkins, secretary. A very satisfactory year had been experienced and the Guide captain’s (Aliss Trewby) report was very pleasing. Tho balance sheet showed a credit balance of £8 4s 6d. Tho election of officers resulted as follows: President, Airs J. Glenn; vice-presidents, Afrs Sweet, Afrs Bonner, Airs Deighton, Airs Turnbull, Airs H. C. Wilson, Afrs R. H. Gutherie, Airs Pearce, Airs Waymouth and Airs Dickinson. The committee were appointed as follows: Afesdames Graham, Blake, Watson, Waugh, Pairman, Lawson, Johnson, Thane and Loye. GENERAL Cold, boisterous weather has been experienced lately, and tho high country around the district held a good cap of snow last Tuesday. Aluch rain has fallen and all creeks and the Rangitikei river have a fair .food. A team nf footballers and a team of riflemen from tho local rifle chib wen to visit Rangawahii on V’ednesday, but, owing to tho wet weather both teams had to abandon the project. PERSONALS Mr Ken Fraser is visiting Wanganui for show week and is a st at Foster’s Hotel. Afr Jim Dennis, who recently had a leg fractured while pla ’ng football, is progressing favourably. Air E. Peed was a visitor to Afangaweka on Thursday.
