BALL A RECORD ATTENDANCE 'rhe transformation of the Marton Town Hall into a commodious dancing salon has cc tainly proved of great advantages to societies that ho 1 I their annual functions in Marton. The building is now most up-to-date in every respect, and tho interior h an imposing ami picturesque appearance, with its walls decorated in Roman style ami the windows with their flower fretwork coverings, whilst the soft tones of the elect He lighting enhance tho beauty of the hall. '1 he record attendance that graced the floor on Friday evening on the occasion of tho Marton District A. and i. Association’s annual ball, were emphatic in their praise of the theatre as a dance rendezvous. The beautiful gowns worn by the ladies with the evening dress of the gentlemen created a scene that will long ho remembered. The floor was in perfect order for dancing, and with tuneful and spirited music rendered by McNeill’s Novelty Bard (New Plymouth) there was little to be desired.

The supper room was artistically decorated with streamers of bracken, with festoons of blue and orange and strings of coloured electric lights. The walls were draped with punga ferns on a white background interspersed with numerous hand-made sketches of English homesteads and scenery, forming a picture that gladdened the hearts of th’ dancers, as they were served with a most dainty and bountiful supper. The decorations were a credit to the designer, Mr W .E. Gibbons, who received many congratulations on the effect that she obtained. The supper was, as usual, one of the main features of the ball, and to Mrs H. 8. C. Morrison and her band of merry helpers, the .hanks of tho Association arc co A inly due, for the splendid supper dispensed. During an interval between the dancers Miss Viola Barker and Mr B. Innes gave a demonstration of the modern waltz in a finished stylo that won tho hearty applause of the audi once. Tho newly-elected president (Mr Keith Stevens) extended a hearty welcome to those present and hoped they would enjoy the evening’s entertainment. Ho specially thanked the ladies and all those who had assisted to make the ball such a success. The duties of M’s.C were carried out by Messrs F. McLean, IL Coleman, K. Scoon ,Rcx Marshall, H. Simpson and \V. E. Gibbons, an di,he secretarial duties by Mr Arthur Way. In the suppe interval extras were contributed by the Western Electric “talkie” projector, and were very much appreciated. i Mr “Chum” Aynsley, one of the earliest members of the Association, generously donated £5 towards the ball funds.
