LONG AND SHORT

TWO DOG ACTORS Caesar, a St. Bernard, and Impudence, a nine weeks’ old smooth-haired fox terrier puppy appear together in the film “Fascination” which Miles Mander is producing for Regina Films Ltd., at Elstree. Caesar is six feet from nose to tail and three feet high. Impudence is just four inches high. Both are from the Elstree Kennels. Caesar is by now an old hand at film acting. He has appeared in Elinor Glyn’s “Tho Price of Things,” and also did the growling in “The Speckled Band” which a mastiff, taking the part, refused to do. In “Fascination” his was to have been only a small part, but so well did he act. that the part was enlarged and he now appears in shots as Madeleine Carrol’s constant companion. Caesar has become so popular at the British International Pictures’ Studios that his owner received three offers to buy him; one of them from Monty Banks himself who bid up to £650. But Caesar is not for sale. Warner Baxter’s next role will be that of the young French officer held in a German prison camp in “I Surrender.” it is announced by Fox Films officials. “I Surrender,” to be directed by William K. Howard, is being adapted from Pierre Benoit’s play, “ Axelle.” English producers are in the extremely fortunate position of being in possession of the services of two men that have come to be recognised the world over as two perfect types of “silly asses,” two men, whose art and naturalness make them kings in their particular roles, and on whom all others of their types must be moulded, for others placed beside them, are seen to be artificial and not the real article at all. The two referred to are Ralph Lynn and Richard Cooper. Richard Cooper is soon to be seen in “Lord Richard in the Pantry,” a talking version of the play which was a sensational success on the London West End. The film sparkles and scintillates -with humour and sparkling wit, elements of entertainment which England has made her very own. The genius Ralph Lynn is soon to be seen in “Tons of Money,” which was directed by his bosom friend and partner in mirth, Tom Walls. 1

Carl Lacmmle, Jr., and Edwin Carew e I paid Dmitri Tiomkin, noted- Russian composer, a signal honour in giving him the entire responsibility of the musical I setting for Tolstoy’s “ Resurrection. ’’j Seldom has any studio or producer I given a composer full responsibility for | the music embracing composition, syn c.hronization with the picture action, , and scoring. John Boles and Lupe Velez are co-starred in “Resurrection.” and others in the cast are Nance O’Neil [ William Keighley, Rose Tapley and , Grace Canard. “Resurrection” is one of Universal's most pretentious dramatic production*. 4 ]
