THE WANGANUI SALE FIRMING SHEEP PRICES Freeman B. Jackson and Co. Ltd. report as follow:, on the Wanganui sale yesterday: “We had a good yarding of sheep and :t fair yard’ng of cattle. Fats were on a par to slightly better than last week’s rates. Export buyers operatedy very freely, and butchers, to secure requirements. had to exceed export rates. Tho sheep sale genera.ly was a good free -e, with few passings, and we eventually had practically a total clearance. rn be cattle section was dull of sale. Tho beef pens wore well filled, passings were fairly heavy. Tho dairy section was hard of sale, few s°les taking place, no doubt the condition (which was poor) of tho dairy cows offered reflected against them. Pigs, as usual, sold well right up to late rates.. Quotations:— Sheep.—Fat b.f. 2 and 4-tooth. wethers 15s 4d; fat wethers, 13s 9d to 34s 6d; fat ewes, 9s 2d, 10s sd, 10s 9d, Ils 6d to 12s 3d; 2-tooth ewes b.r.w Rom. rams 13s 6d; 4 and 5-; ear ewos, b-’.w. Southdown rams 10s; empty fattening ewes 4s 4d; fair ewo hoggets, 12s 2d; small ewe hoggets, 7s, 8s 2d, to 8s 6d; wether hoggets, 6s lOd to 9s 3d.

Cattle. —Fat Hereford cows £5; fat Shorthorn heifers £4 Is; fat cows, ex dairy £2 12s 6d, £3 2s 6d to £3 12s 6d; store cows, ex dairy 31s, 35s to 37s 6d; low-conditioned cows, 12s Cd, 15s to 255; Hereford weaner heifers 31s; small Jersey cross weaner heifers 10s, 21s to 255. Pigs.—Baconers £2 7s to £2 10s; porkers 255, 25s Cd to 275; forward stores 235, 24s to 27s Cd; good stores 18s, 19s to 21s; stores 15s, 16s to 17s Cd; slips 13s to 15s; boar £1 10s. WESTFIELD MARKET MARKET VERY FIRM. [Per Pjcbs Association.) AUCKLAND, June 24. A shorter yarding in all sections at Westfield to-day met a firm market. The entry of 464 head of fat cattle sold freely at up to 24s per 1001 b. Average ox beef realised around 20s to 23s per 1001 b. The smallest entry of calves for many mouths met a keen sale at advanced prices. Vealers realised from 30s to 555. Fat sheep sold steadily at late rates, prime wethers making from 13s Cd to 18s and prime ewes 10s Cd to 14s 6d. Lambs realised around 5Jd a pound. Fat pigs sold steadily at around sid a pound. To-day’s sale at Addington was conducted under the winterlest of conditions, and the attendance of operators in the store stock section was the smallest for some years. There were only a few pens forward of store sheep, store cattle, dairy cattle and store pigs.

Eat Lambs. —2600 were penned. The schedule for export has been reduced during the week, and values were easier by Is to Is Cd per head. Extra prime lambs to 23s 4d, prime 38s Cd to 20s, medium ICs to 18s, light 12s 6d to 15s Cd, store 9s 6d to 12s.

Eat sheep comprised another heavy yarding of 6600 head. The schedule for export for wethers has improved during the week, whilst that for ewes has receded, and a sale in accordance therewith was the result. Export buyers bought freely, but with less keenness than the week before. Best wethers made to 4d lb. and ewes to 2gd, extra prime wethers to 25s Id, prime 17s to 19s 3d, medium 14s to 16s Cd, light 3 Is to 13s Cd, extra prime ewes to 15s lOd, prime ewes 14s Cd, medium 9s 6d to 12s, I light and aged 5s 7d. Fat Cattle. —Two lines from the North Island of 28 and 29, averaged £ll 2s and £lO 2s respectively. A very prime draft of 24 local steers averaged £.13 3s. Generally the sale showed an casing tendency, though some of the better steer beef showed a little change. Tho best of beef sold at about 29s a 1001 b., prime 25s to 28s, and secondary down to 19s a 1001 b. Extra prime heavy steers to £l5 2s 6d, prime heavy £lO to £l2 10s, medium weight prime £7 Gs to £9 10s, ordinary quality £5 15s to £7, light to £5, extra prime heifers to £3O 2s Cd, prime £G to £7 15s, medium £3 15s to £5 15s, light to £3 10s, extra prime cows to £ll 17s Cd, prime £5 5s to £7 10s. medium £3 5s to £5, light and aged £3. Fat Pigs.—There was an irregular sale for fat pigs. Choppers made 40s to £4 Ils and baconers to CCs Cd. Average price per lb. 4id to sd. Porkers 25s to 48s 6d. Average price per lb. 5Jd to 7Ad.
