SPLENDID EXHIBITION OPINING ON FRIDAY. The annual art and crafts exhibition of the Wanganui Art Society, to be opened at the Sarjeant Art Gallery’ by the Alayor (Mr N. G. Armstrong) at 3 o'clock on Friday afternoon is the best to bp held in Wanganui for many’ years. Afany of the leading artists possessed by New Zealand, and who are known all over the world of art, will be exhibiting their works, while the crafts that are to be seen arc of excellent quality. Of great and varied interest the pictures are numerous in subject and treatment. Among the figure subjects is a characteristic study by Linley Richardson. R.8.A.. and another by Miss Ida Curry entitled “A Dutch Girl Spinning.’’ A fine study of a group of Maoris has been executed by Miss E M. Collier who is also exhibiting a. portrait of a Maori woman. Air C. Hay Campbell has two first-class works in ‘An Old Garden” and a nude study entitled “The Captive.” Mrs V. E. Whiteman, who is so well-known her animal studies, has a number oty these excellent pictures on view. Of the landscapes Air Roland Hipkin’s 41 A Wellington Suburb.” which attracted so much attention at the recent Autumn Exhibition at Wellington will be appreciated by Wanganui art lovers. Proiioufircd features of the exhibition of the Auckland Hocietv of Arts which are showing in Wanganui are those by d'Auvergne Boxall, .John Weekes and T. M. Copeland and they nrc bound 10 cause tremendous interest. Lovers of etchings will find time to admire the work of Mr Vincent Evans, \ L’.i'JL Flower pictures are numerous and mar.y of them are of outstanding merit, among those contributing are Mrs Doust, Mrs Cox, Mrs Al. Tripe, Misses A. and M. White. G. Alason. D. K. Richmond, J. McKay, Messrs T. Holloway, ('. Hay Campbell. There i« also an excellent still life study by Ml Spence Smith, while others who help to add to the paramount excellence of the exhibition are Air H. F. Nicholl. Mr M. Gibb, Air J. L. Moore. Mr D. Munro Wilson, and Miss Hilda Wilson.
