THE FUSION PROPOSALS
MR FORBES’ ATTITUDE RE AID Y FOR DISCUSBION WELLINGTON, June 23. Referring to his proposals for the formation of a national Government, the Primo Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, said to-day he was still open to discuss the matter with the Leader of -the Opposition, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, and he was quite willing to confer with Air Coates if he expressed such a des’.re. When asked whether he had any com. ment to make on the memorandum forwardei to him by a group of representative Auckland professional and business men, Mr Forbes said it. was difficult at first sight to say what could be done, but, in his opinion, the need of a national party was even greater to-day than ever before. With the increase of unemployment, and the difficulty of finance, the neccs sit.y of having a stable Government that would apply the necessary remedial measures was more than ever emphasised. “I have done all 1. could,” Mr Forbes added, “but I am still of the opinion that a national Government is required. I am quite willing to confer with Air Coates along the lines of the Auckland memorandum, if he. wishes me to do so.”
