MARTON BOROUGH
COUNCIL MEETING HELD. [Special to “Chronicle.”] MARTON, Juno 22. The Council met to-night there being present: The Mayor (Mr F. Purnell) and Crs. G. B. Gregory, T. Barton, A. A. Mclndoe, A. Honeyman, J. D. Gorrie, M. B. Langston, A. J. B. Sicely and K. A. Williams. Air S. A. Horlock wrote relative to a charge made for re-eonnecting gas supply, offering without prejudice 15s in lull settlement of claim and stating that he does not recognise any liability*—Council decided to request full payment. Mr A. E. Finnimore, parishioners’ warden of St. Stephen’s Church, wrote stating that the Council’s purchase of land for enlargement of Mt. View Cemetery has restricted the expansion of St. Stephen’s Cemetery and asking that portion of the land be dedicated for the use of the Anglican community on the understanding that the land so dedicated would remain the property of the Council and under its jurisdiction.— Council decided to dedicate a suitable additional area in terms of the request, subject to general control of the Conn cil. The Superintendent of the Marton Fire Brigade reported that in conjunction with the overseer he had inspected the alterations to the fire escape at Braeside Private Boardinghouse and had found them completed as required. An opinion was received from the Municipal Association’s solicitor with respect to the exposing for sale of meat in vans iu the streets within the borought. He stated that it was not contrary to any statute law or regulation of which he was aware.' Relating to the sale of meat in vans clause one says that no person shall use for the conveyance of meat or fish for sale any vehicle or receptacle which is not so constructed as to be easily cleansed or which is used for the conveyance of any article liable to taint or contaminate the meat, or fish. Clause two reads: No person shall convey or delis er or cause to be conveyed or delivered any meat for sale unless such meat; was being conveyed or delivered is kept, so covered or enclosed as to be protected from flies or dust or other impurities. Cr. -Maclndoc’s two reports on the complaint of the Marton Brass Band and the gas used at the Marton Fire Brigade Station were read and adopted. It is intended to close the coal competition in aid of the earthquake relief fund at the end of the month. Tho overseer was instructed to prepare an estimate for laying two asphalt tennis courts on the Council's property in Hereford Street,
