SETTLED AMICABLY
NEWSPAPER FACES LIBEL ACTION. Received Juno 22, 8.39 p.m. SYDNEY, Juno 22. The libel action brought by Mr W. M. Hughes, a former Primo Minister, against the Sydney Morning Herald to recover £lO,OOO damages was settled amicably. Air Hughes claimed that the Herald editorial of last September associated him with the extreme section which advocated a repudiation of war debts and interest. Tho Herald counsel disavowed any intention to convey that impression and expressed regret that tho words in the editorial should have been thus interpreted.
