RANGITIKEI RUGBY UNION. The Rangitikei Rugby Union met on Friday evening, the president (Mr S. McKenzie) occupying the chair. Also present were: Messrs W. S. Page, F. Haywood, 11. Batchelor, E. 11. Caidow, A. 8. Coleman, B. Parkes, D. Bull, R K. Simpson, and Messrs K. A. Williams (treasurer) and E. B. Abel (secretary). The action of the fixture commit tee in accept in Juno 24 for the Bobbing ton Shield challenge match at Pahiatuu was endorsed. It was decided that the ( Rangitikei team will assemble at Alar ton at 9 a.m. and proceed to Pahiatua by private car, lunching there at 12 noon. Those who had offered cars were accorded a vote of thanks. The Halcombe Club wrote pointing out that only nine of their junior players arrived at Huntervillc on V\ ednesday last through a car breaking down en route. They asked for a replay. Huiiterville also wrote expressing unwill ingness to accept a win in view of the circumstances and sought a replay. A replay was ordered at the end of season and the sporting attitude of Huntervillc was commended. Clearances were received from Te Kawau Union in connection with N. Kane, B. Johnston and N. Williams. They had been registered in the Rata Club.—The players were permitted to

play on Saturday provided they liad fulfilled their residential qualifications. It was decided to suggest Wednesday, July 8, for tho Tc Kawau rep. match at Bulls, and the secretary was instructed to enter a challenge for the Pownall Trophy held by Taihape, tho date suggested being July 22. UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE. At Friday night’s meeting of the Unemployment Committee, the detailed expenditure on relief wages locally, totalling £602 18s 9d since April 25, was submitted to those present by tho chair man (Mr F. Purnell). These amounts apply onlv to wages for tho Nos. 5 and -la schemes. Actually, of course, wages paid for relief work under all schemes since the inception of tho Unemployment Board will bo considerably in excess of the amounts given below. FANCY DRESS BALL AT TUTAENUI There was a large attendance at the children’s fancy dress ball in the Tutae nui Social Hall on Friday evening, held under the auspices of the School Committee. A feature of the evening was the action songs given by the children —a Maori canoe song being particularly well done. The scholars and their teachers (Mrs Maiden and Miss Simpson) who supplied tho music for the children’s dancing, are to bo congratu lated on the splendid showing made by the youthful performers. After the children had been served with a bountiful supper the adults took the floor and danced till the early hours of tho morning, the music being supplied by Mr T. Hartley, with an extra by Miss Iris Coles, Messrs J. Jefferson, C. W. Stafford and C. H. Gower acted as M’s.C. and under their charge the function was brought to a happy conclusion. There was a generous surplus of cakes, etc., left over after supper, and the committee handed these to tho authorities for distribution among necessitous local households.
