IN NEW SOUTH WALES TWO SURPRISES RECORDED. BLACK BEATS TITLE-HOLDER. Received Juno 21, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, June 21. There were two surprises in the first day’s match play for the State golf title. W. Dobson defeated S. Keane 3 up and 2, and the New Zealander, 11. A. Black disposed of the title-holder, C. Fawcett, two up after a particularly dogged uphill fight. Fawcett, playing superb golf, reach the turn 3 up. W th 4’s at the par 5 15th and 16th holes, Black squared the match and then holed out from outside the green at tho 17th for 3, taking tho lead. The New Zealander was nicely on in 2 at the last and won the match. THE GAME IN U.S.A. WESTERN OPEN TITLE Received Juno 21, 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK, June 20. At Dayton, Ohio, in the second round round of the West open golt championship, Dudley is leading with 139. Von Elm is second with 142 and Hagen took 143. DUDLEY THE WINNER. Received June 21, 7.20 p.m. NEW YORK, June 20. At Dayton, Dudley won the Western Open golf championship with a score of 280. Hagen was second with 284.

WANGANUI CLUB PLAY FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULT OF FIRST ROUND. The weather conditions were excellent on Saturday for the first round of play for the 1931 championships at Belmont. With tho exception of the Senior Championship, in which onlj four matches were played, most of the first round games were decided. Tho results were as follow: Senior Championship W. B. Reilly won from F. G. Bcaven. J. M. Hussey won from J. Harold. B. Ml Silk Avon from R. D. Harding. M. Duncan beat F. C. Hutchison (at 19th). Midleweight Championship E. J. Williams won from H. R. Jones. A. Haworth won from D. L. Bly th. W. G. Scanncll won from I. Meldrum. A. Doig won from N. G. Armstrong. R. E. T. Hewat won from J. V. Blyth. R. H. Clay won from H. Zeisler. Junior Championship J. V. Blyth won from A. B. Wilson. iF. K. Turnbull won from P. 1. Saunders. J. R. Fisher won from S. Rankin. G. S. Swan won from F. J. Hill. W. G. Baird won from C. N. Tucker. R. INTER-CLUB MATCH PATEA VISITS SEATIELD. ANNUAL MATCH PLAYED. The annual match between the Patea and Seafield Golf Clubs was played on tho Seafield links over the week-ends. The day was one of the best that golfers have been favoured with this season. and with the links in capital order everything was well set for an enjoy able day’s golf and also renewal of friendships made during previous visits. The results at the conclusion of the day’s play showed Seafield to be the winners by a comfortable margin. At tho conclusion of the matches Mr Gordoi Wills, oi. behalf of the Patea Club, thanked the members of the Seafield Club for the hospitality and stated that the Patea Club would look forward to tho return match at Patea. Air Ellery Gilbert briefly responded on behalf of Seafield and thanked the members of the Patea Club for sending down such a 1? *ge number of players.
