They went through a special servic* of thanksgiving at the same hour and in the same church as the orginal ceremony to celebrate iheir long and happy association. The bride of JS76—to-day a charming woman of 74—earned a bouquet of tulips ami daffodils as .-In did 55 years ago. There was an amusing incident as i'n< couple left the church. A little child
called out to her mother, “1 want to see the bride,” and was astonished when Mrs Alp bent and kissed her. The Rector of Gateshead, (.’anon Stephenson, who conducted the ceremony, kissed the ‘‘bride,” saying as he did so, “It is my privilege.” A service to celebrate a long and happy marriage is an innovation in ecclesiastical practice. Canon Stephenson stated that it was suggested to him by | her husband. “I have never heard of such a service before,” he remarked, “but it is a happy idea.”
