SCHOOL COMMITTEE The usual monthly meeting of tin' Mangaweka School committee was held on Tuesday evening 'ast. The following members were present: M. Guinnane (chairman), J. Jacob, L. Mahoney, G. Salt, and Mr Caiman (headmaster). Leave of absence was granted Mr T. Kirkley. No correspondence" was received. Accounts were passed as follows: A. H. Westwood £4 ss. Mrs Jacob £l. 10s, L. A. Bailey £1 3s 3d, total £6 18s 3d. It was decided to spend £] in procuring sand for the shelter shed and a load of fine metal for the playground. MAGISTRATE’S COURT A sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held on Friday, Mr Watson. S.M. presiding. B. Bilderbeck was charged with a breach of the motor traffic regulations and was fined 30s with Court costs 10s. Judgment by default was given in the following civil cases: AV. Watson Ltd. v. H. Linton. £5 18s 9d; W. Watson Ltd. v. N. Miller, £35 19s; W. Watson Ltd. v. M. Stent, £l2 9s. Objections to a special roll were lodged by Mr A. E. Raynor on his own behalf for Nicholls and Raynor against the Rangitikei County Council. Raynor and Pot aka were represented hv Mr Thompson, of Hunterville. It. was contended bv the objectors that the distribution of rating for tho loan was unfair. There were properties that would benefit materially by this road that were not rated to the extent that the objectors’ property was. If. Richardson, secretary of the Rangitikei County Council, and Mair, county engineer, spoke on behalf of the council. It was con-,ended that tho rating for this loan was made lighter for sonic rate payers because they had voluntarily come in on previous leans in this district. C. McKinnon, a rat.-qviyer in the district, objected to his rates being increased for this special loan, as the road already cost him at the rate of £3 per trip. Tho Magistrate contended that the road must certainly benefit Mr McKinnon’s property and was there for him to use as much as he or tiny other settler desired. At this stage it "was decided that the Court adjourn to the said property jn order that the Magistrate night view the road and tho property affected. A shearing contract in dispute between Messrs D. Coyle and McKnight was adjourned until July 16. The Mangaweka Defence Rifle Club held a shoot for the Chas. Siddels Bolt on Wednesday last. Some keen shooting was witnessed, the belt being won by F. P. Dickinson, with a score of .139 for tho three ranges. The scores were as follows:

Bosher have returned from a short visit to the north. Tho Aliases Neils, who have been the guests of Air and Airs Phillips, have returned to Oeo.
