A SPEEDY ACHIEVEMENT

p'o have established an organisation as a going concern within twenty-four hours is an achievement of which the people of Wanganui can be justly proud. This was made possible by reason of the experience which was gained during the working of the Earthquake Relief Committee by Mr Symes, the Reverend Mr. Goring and Captain Maxwell. These three gentlemen knew what was required and also whom to nominate for the positions. In this way recognition of some splendid workers was made. Mrs Dexter’s work is, of course, an all the year round evergreen, but many people learned for the first time of the splendid work done by Mr William Brown during the Earthquake Relief Committee’s functioning. Mrs Wickham’s work at the Drill Hall also came to light as did many other good co-operator’s efforts. Having set up an organisation is not enough, however; recruits are needed for many duties. The lady members of the community should support Mrs Hair and those associated with her and attend at the Y.M.C.A. this afternoon to further the work which has been allotted to them by the Central Committee. This work of canvassing for food and clothing is of the greatest importance and the success of the whole campaign depends upon this work to a large extent. The work so well and enthusiastically begun needs many helpers and their services will be welcomed.
