RANGIWAHIA

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Over fifty ladies attended the monthly meeting of the local branch last Tuesday, Mrs A. Moyan (president), presiding. Alesdames Fraser, Fagan, Kreger and L. G. Ros©, were tho hostesses. The meeting opened with the singing of the institute song. Three new members were proposed and elected. The scone competition, in which there were fifteen entries, was won by Aliss GMorgan. Th© pea-nut competition was won by Miss B. Alorgan, and a demonstration on how to make paper flowers was given by Airs Hay thorn e. The competitions for th© next meeting are: The best plate of plain biscuits, the best article made from a sugar bag, and each member has to pay, say, sing or play. HOCKEY The A and B hockey teams journeyed] to Aloawhango on Thursday to play against the Whiti-Tama teams, and| were entertained very enjoyably by the Afaori people there. The games resulted, Rangiwahia A 2, v. Whiti-Tama A 1; Rangiwahia B 0, v. Whiti-Tama B 1. After the games, which had both been very evenly contested, the teams were entertained to afternoon tea in the meeting-house at the pa, and later hakas were given and songs sung. Air Whiti Tama, on behalf of the Afaori teams, expressed his appreciation of the Rangiwahia girls having travelled such a distance to play his teams, and said how much they had enjoyed the games. He asked the members of his teams to give three hearty cheers for the visiting teams.

Alias Cecil Myers, captain of the Rangiwahia A team, thanked him for the way they had entertained them, i and asked her teams to rise and give three cheers for the Whiti-Tamas. Mr Boshier also expressed thanks on behalf of the visitors. Then a piano was brought in and the floor cleared, and short but enjoyable dance held. KITCHEN TEA A kitchen tea was tended at the Hall on Friday evening to Miss D. Wood and Mr W. Carr, who are shortly to be married. The evening’s programme consisted of cards, competitions and dancing, which were thoroughly enjoyed by over one hundred persons present. Air Pemberton, acting as chairman, said he was expressing the opinion of all present when he wished tho guests all happiness, and he said the line assortment of household gifts displayed was sufficient proof of tho esteem in which they were both held. Air W. Carr returned thanks on behalf of Aliss Wood and himself. After a tasty supper a very enjoyable evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne,” RUGBY FOOTBALL Two senior and two junior teams took part in the seven-a-sido tournament held at Kimbolton on Saturday under very inclement conditions. The A team were successful in winning the senior competition, and the Junior B team was defeated in the semi-linal. Three members, A. Al art in, H. C. ATonk, and A. Carr of the local senior team, have been picked to play for the northern team against the Palmerston N. team at Feilding next Saturday. CARD TOURNAMENT The third of a scries of card tournaments in aid of funds for the football 'duh was held on Saturday night, when there was the usual good attendance , The winners of the various prizes . were: Crib, Airs H.
