There was a pretty little episode at the close of a large gathering of women to show appreciation of Mrs Campbell’s work as Mayoress of Auckland. When she returned from the afternoon tea room, two members of the Akarana Maori Association mounted the steps of the stage and burst into a song of farewell in Maori, which was greatly enjoyed. At a Bond Street (tress parade recently a largo audience waxed enthusiastic over the charms of brilliantlyprinted organdie evening dresses (states the Daily Telegraph). Masses of frills and ruches—quaint Victorian shades of blue, pink, green, and yellow all added to the picture note —yet these models were most practical for dancing, as they were mounted on shot taffeta, and suited the tall, slim modern girl to perfection. Here, too, was the revival of the petticoat in connection with attractive and smart day frocks. Beneath a black jersey of crepe de chine was a peeping underskirt of white cambric, with a series of tiny lace frills. Light lingerie touches also appeared in the dainty under-sleeves, chemisette, and fichu, collar.
