GALLANT POLICE OFFICERS [Per Pre?!’ Assoeintion.] WELLINGTON, June 15. Tho Commissioner of Police, Air W. G Wohlmann, has granted records of merit to Constable W. 8. Hammond of Taranaki Bt. station for a gallant at tempt to save tho lives of members of tho crew of the steamer Progress which was wrecked on the coast at Ohiro Bay on May 1, and Constable Baker of Is land Bay, for gallantly saving the life of a member of the crew of tho Pro gross.
