WHANGAREI RETIREMENT WHANGAREI, Juno 9. Mr St. John A. White, chief clerk of the Public Works Department at Whangarei. has retired on superannuation. Air White joined the department as a clerk at Hunterville in 1901, and was later clerk in charge of the clerical work on the Auckland-Wellington Main Trunk construction. He was for many years in the head office at Wellington, and came to Whangarei as chief clerk in 1924. Air White intends to take up his residence at Norfolk Island. He has been succeeded by Air V. C. Curtis, of Greymouth, who arrived in Whangarei this afternoon.
