ROMANTIC WEDDING
SWEETHEARTS OF LONG AGO UNITED AFTER SIXTY YEARS Quite a romantic fairy story is associated with the marriage of two old pensioners at the Rcgistery Office at Edmonton, London, 60 recently. As far back as 0 years, a boy and girl sweethearted in the schooldays, and then drifted apart. Both married in due course, and the man was a widower and hia old love a widow’ when they chanced to meet, recognised each other, chatted over old times, and ended up with a wedding compact. The parties in this charming little episode are Mr James Tott, 73 years of age, and Mrs Isabella Greenfield, who was 75 on her wedding day. They might never have been reunited but for the action of a good fairy In the person of Mrs Stan Groome, the wife of a postman, living in Pymmes Gardens, Edmonton. While walking in the street one day Mrs Groome found Mrs Greenfield in a collapsed condition, and hearing that she had nowhere to go, took her to her own home and befriended her. Later Mrs Greenfield was out walking with her benefactress when they chanced to meet Mr Tott, and the old couple, recognised each other. Pledges of affection were renewed, and the wedding ceremony was the sequel. Mrs Groome and his son were witnesses, and the bridesmaid was Mrs Stan Groome’s six-year-old grand-daughter, Joan Ryan. Three motor-cars for the wedding! party were supplied by Edmonton Rotarians. It had been hoped to send the old couple for their honeymoon to Southend for the day. but owing to the rain this arrangement was cancelled. The wedding cake and a number of presents were given by neighbours. A crowd of 300 people showered confetti on the old couple, and cheers were raised as they left the office. Mr Tott has a house in which ho has lived nearly all his life.
