A nice, loose surface greatly assists growth. Jerusalem artichokes are now sufficiently ripened for digging and harvesting. Attend to earthing up of cabbages, cauliflowers and other colworts. Before earthing up apply some stimulating fertiliser to assist in giving size and quality to the crops. Give special attention to the thinning of seedling crops, leaving the most sturdy and promising plants to grow. Take every advantage of fine weather, to thoroughly work the ground between all growing crops. During the present and succeeding months, prune fruiting trees and plants/ as they mature and ripen their wood. As the season for planting has now fairly commenced, no time should be lost in selecting the varieties required, and placing the ground in the best condition for planting.
