KEEPING IN FOCUS
MARKS ON THE FLOOR. Pointed toes are feminine and round ones masculine to picture workers. This was discovered ou a set where Ruth Chatterton’s starring picture, “Unfaithful,” was in production. To aid in keeping players exactly in the camera’s focus during close-up shots, marks were made on the floor. As the players moved into the scene, they placed their feet at these chalk marks and carried on their dialogue scenes, thus making per feet photography possible. During a scene involving Ruth Chatterton, Paul Lukas and Paul Cavanagh, it was noted that round marks were made for the position of men’s feet and pointed marks for those of Miss Chatterton. This, cameramen explained, is the universal practice to distinguish the markers for the players.
