BIG PERIOD OF ACTIVITY Following on published opinion to the effect that RKO (Radio) would be one of the big powers in the distributingproducing end of the business this season, comes further information to the effect that at least five more pictures are to be of a super feature quality, and to cost, in at, least two instances, as much as that expended on “Cimarron,” which classic is now’ embarking on its Australian and New Zealand engagements. Studio new’s is particularly healthy—productions and stars being many and varied, with quite a number of the old favourites cast for stories which are destined to prove even greater successes than those of last season. Richard Dix, for instance, whose outstanding work in “Cimarron,” is now a household word, has just completed “Big Brother,” directed by Fred Niblo. A whole company are now in Spain for the making of “Marcheta,” The atmospheric “shots” are necessary in the beat interests of the picture. “Nancy’s Private Affair” is to star Mary Astor, and will be a story of exceptional entertainment value, Bert Wheeler and Dorothy Loe will be seen as a team in “Cracked Nuts.” Charles Rogers has begun work on “Registered Women,” in xxhich Helen and William Bakewell are cast in stellar rolos. “Madame Julie’’ is in production at Hollywood, and it has a fine cast, headed by Lily Datnita. “Waiting at tho Church,” “White Shoulders,” “The Lady Refuses,” “Too Many Cooks” ami “Travelling Husbands” are but a brief number in a most formidable list to be seen in due course. —The Film Weekly. Wynne Gibson. Paramount featured player, adopted her first name, for the stage from her usual nick-name of “Win” from “Winifred.” Carman Barnes, Paramount’s newest star, hud her first play, the dramatisation of her novel, “School Girl,” produced on Broadway on her eighteenth birthday last November 20. Clive Brook still writes short stories for English publications, a practice ho began before he started his acting career. Three thousand tin plates, pots, and pans are used in the prison kitchen dish-washing scene in “Paid,” Joan Craxvford’s new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayor picture.
