DROUGHT IN CANADA
PRAYERS FOR RAIN A MINISTER’S REQUEST. OTTAWA, June 5. A Prince Albert message states: Declaring that tho crop is faced with the greatest drought in years, Mr J. F. Bryant (Minister of Public Works) is requesting all clergymen throughout Saskatchewan to unite for ono day of prayer for rain. CHICAGO WHEAT BENEFITS Received June 7, 5.5 p.m. NEW YORK, June 7. Chicago wheat reached the highest prices since May 20, as a result of reports of the Canadian drought. June is quoted at 67A cents, July 60, Septum ber 60 1-8, and December 63 7-8. PRAIRIE PROVINCES A SERIOUS OUTLOOK Received Juno 7, 5.5 p.m. WINNIPEG, Juno 6. Tho Manitoba Freo Press, in a survey of tho crop conditions, declares that the outlook, as a result of the drought, is tho worst in 29 years. Tho drought is general throughout three prairie provinces. Premier Brownless, of Alberta, declares that unless tho Government guarantees an initial payment of 50 cents a bushel to wheat-growers, there will not bo enough money in circulation next autumn to keep the country going. He is arranging a conference of tho three prairie Premiers, wheat pool officials, and the Canadian Premier, Mr R. B. Bennett.
