AFTERNOON RECEPTION A very pleasant aud informal gathering took place at St. Helens j Hospital ou Friday, when the nurses i held a reception in honour of Aliss i Lambie, Director-General of tho Nursing Division, who arrived on Thursday evening on a brief visit to Wanganui. Sister Boyce extended a gracious welcome and made a happy speech, which was replied to by Miss Lambie. A musical programme followed, when a dainty afternoon tea was served and items which were much enjoyed were songs by Aliss E. Warnock, piano solos by Aliss Jones and Aliss Rose, the latter also playing tho acompaniments. Among those present wer:c Airs A. i J. Crawford, Airs Sherwin, Alisses Boyce. Hcan. Warnock, AlcNab, Hamilton, Royce, Williams, Livingston, Baker well, I’arkcs, Dawes, Boswick, Peterson. TECHNICAL COLLEGE FANCY DRESS DANCE The Technical College Hostel boys and girls and prefects of tho school held their fancy dress dance on Saturday evening in tho Technical College Assembly Hall. The hall had been decorated with lanterns and streamers representing the various house colours, ami with the many bright and pretty fancy costumes, made a gay and col ourful scene. Tho dance music was provided by an electric gramophone i specially arranged on the platform, | and the duties oi ! master of ceronioni les w en; ably carried out by AL I Satyanand. During the evening amus- ' ing competitions were held, the winners i being Madge Willis, Aladgo Svenson and Lavatu. The Alonto Carlo dance j was won by Claudia Bayly and Lava- | lu. Newton. Al. Satyanand. in a happy little speech, thanked Airs Newton for all that she had done for them, and presented her with a small gift from the boys and girls of the hostel. It was a very happy party that sat down to supper; tho tables were nicely arranged in two school rooms and many

dainty things wore provided. Among those present were: Air and Airs Ncw'ton, the latter wearing biscuit georgette and lace and oriental bridge coat; Aliss Beckway, shell pink georgettcc and silver brocade coatee; Aliss Copsey, champagne georgette embroidered with gold flowers; Mrs Thompson, blue sprigged satin; Mrs Bates, black georgette; Aliss Williams.
