| Mrs S. McKenzie, Daunevirke, spent 1 the week-end with f riends in Wanganui. [ Mr and Mrs Janies Brechin, of Pahiai tua, and their son, Mr Kelvin Brechin, 1 are visitors to Wanganui. I Mrs B. Hair and Miss Hair, Wan- ■ ganui, are visiting Elthain as the guests of Mrs G. Cooper. 5 Miss Newring, who has been spending a short holiday in Waverley, has returned to Wanganui. Mrs J. C. Maxwell, who has been visiting Marton as the guest of Mrs L. Reid, returned to New Plymouth on Saturday. Mrs Christy has returned to Wanganui from a visit to Wellington, where ’ she was the guest of Mrs I. Johnson. Miss C. Kitcat, Marton, who has been ;he guest of Miss A. Denniston, Lower Hutt, has returned home, accompanied i by Miss Denniston. Nurse A. Kelly, of the Wanganui Hospital staff, has been transferred to the Taihape Hospital, and Nurse Buckley to Raetihi Hospital. Nurse V. Burrows has been appointed to the Jubilee Home, Wanganui. Mrs R. J. McDonald, of Wairoa, who has been visiting her sister, Mrs Richardson, left on Saturday with her sons for Auckland. Mrs A. Cameron, Marangai, and Mrs H. D’Arcy, have left for a holiday at Oamaru, where they are the guests of Dr. Fitzgerald. Madame Briggs and Miss .1 can Briggs. Hataitai. Wellington, are the guests of Mrs Laird, Westmere. Mr and Mrs C. A. Tidy, of Marton, and their son, are spending a holiday at Rotorua. Miss E. Wilkie, of Wellington, who has been the guest of Mrs R. Cook. Wanganui East, haf left for Hawke s Bay. The many friends of Mrs J. Nicholls, Carlton Avenue, who has been seriously ill, will be pleased to know that she is improving’ in health. Members and friends of the Castlecliff Golf Club held a very enjoyable 500 evening at the residence of Mr Wood, Alma Road, on Thursday evening. Prizes were won by Miss Wilson, Miss Brock, Mr Wagstaff and Mr Gorrie. Mr Leddy Heath. Castlecliff, was successful in winning the cake competition. Wellington women recently gave a iarge reception in honour of Mrs G. A. Troup, the retiring Mayoress. As a taken of their esteem and friendship Mrs Troup was presented with a beautiful period mahogany writing cabinet, adorned with a silver plate on which was inscribed Mrs Troup’s name, with the date of her time as Mayoress of Wellington, and stating that it was offered to her as an appreciation of her excellent work for the city and people. It was hoped by all the donors that Mrs Troup would live many years to enjoy its use, and that she would enjoy happiness and prosperity. Miss Troup, who had helped her mother very Imuch during her father’s term of office, was presented with a charming little gold wristlet watch. Among those present were representatives of practically all the women’s societies m Wellington. ENGAGEMENTS. The engagement is announced of Annie Kate Watson (Kitty), eldest daughter of Mr ami Mrs R. L. Smith, Wanganui East, to Albert, third son of Mrs and the late Mr M. Reardon, Maxwell, Wanganui. The engagement is announced ot i \roha, youngest daughter of Mr Walter Clifford, Fendallon, Christchurch, and Alf Brustad, of Ramar, Norway. Miss Aroha Clifford is known throughout New Zealand as a most competent aviatrix. She was the first woman member of the Canterbury Aero, Club to become a pilot. She is a fully qualified ground engineer, having recently taken a course in England yt the de Havilland works. Miss Clifford has done a con siderable amount of flying throughout | . New Zealand, having on more than one 111 occasion piloted her ’plane across Cook Htrait. to traverse the North Island. | Miss Clifford owns her own ’plane, and is the only woman in New Zealand to have a Puss Moth. Miss Clifford is also keenly interested in mountaineering, having achieved some of the most, difficult climbs in the Mount <’ook regions. Her fiance, Mr Alf Brustad, is well known among alpinists.
