KEEN DEMAND IN HAWKE'S BAY One of the interesting features of tho seed business this season i> the strong demand for Hawke’s Buy mother .seed of perennial rye, at the excellent price of Ils to 13s 6d per bushel wholesale. Ir is quite cl-*ar that the efforts of the Department of Agriculture are coming to fruition in n ready recognition that, there is :ruo value in the utilisation of certified perennial strains. The demand now exceeds the supply in New Zealand, not- i withstanding the fact that several far- ' mers in the South Island procured high, grade seed of the certified strain last . season and have sold large (plant i»ics r this year at prives in conformity vvi:h those, ruling for the Hawke’s Bay seed. Official experiments have completely satisfied the farming community that the true perennirt) rye produces a morn permanent type of pasture ’han tho ordinary ryegrass, half Italian and half ryegrass.
