The attendance was not as large u> usual, but bidding on all store sheep was quite good. Fat sheep were inclined to drag a bit, due to being’ hardly tit and prime enough for butchers’ requirements. The cattle section was hard to sell at auction, but many lines changed hands privately, and we have to report practically a total clearance. WESTFIELD SALE VERY HEAVY ENTRY [ Per Press Association. ] AUCKLAND, May 13. A total entry of just under 900 far cattle, the heaviest for many weeks, came forward to Westfield to-day. Best ox heifer beef made to 26s a hundred, good quality butchers’ lines averaging 22s to 23s a hundred. Old cows made from 8s 6d a hundred pounds up. The calf market was weak, vealer* making from 19s to 445. Fresh dropped calves sold from 2s upward. The sheep market was easier, prime wethers making from 13s 8d to 17s (id. Ewes made to 14s. The lamb market was firm with exporters paying around s]d a lb i‘oi prime woolly lambs. The bacon market advanced slightly and prices ranged about 5d to sjd a lb. The tone of the sheep market at Ad dington to-day was much improved. All classes sold well—fat lambs and fat sheep particularly. Fat cattle, how ever, showed a further recession. Store Sheep.—A much smaller entry and an active demand for forward lambs, which improved up to Is 6d a head in sympathy with the increased export schedule for fat lambs, and also for forward wethers, which were slight ly firmer. Extra good ewe lambs to 15s, good, 10s to 12s; medium wether lambs, 7s to 9s; medium to good mixed sex lambs, 7s to 12s; plain and back ward lambs, 3s 6d to 6s; good twotooth three-quarter bred ewes to 15s 4d: ordinary two-tooth Corriedale ewes. 10s to Ils 3d; good s.in. ewes, 10s to Us 6d; good 4, 6 and 8-tootli half bred wethers, 10s to 12s; ordinary 4 and 6 tooth halfbred wethers, 8s 6d to 9s 9d. Fat Lambs.—A reduced entry and an improvement of Is 6d a head in accordance with the increase in the export schedule of 5Jd for firsts and 4d for second grade. Extra prime to 20s lOd, prime, 17s 6d to 19s 3d; medium. 16s to 17s 3d; light, 12s 6d to Jss 3d; store, Ils to 12s. Fat (Sheep.—44oo were yarded. A better sale of medium ewes, exporters operating more freely. Other classes were firm on last week’s rates.
