WANGANUI AFFAIRS METROPOLITAN UNION MAN AGEMENT COMMITTEE ‘ MEETS i The weekly meeting of the manageI ment committee of the Wanganui Metropolitan Rugby Union was held last ( night, Mr C. 11. Warden presiding. A challenge was received from the Kaierau Club for the Maoriland Cup. which is held by Pirates. This game will be put on as the curtain-raiser to j the Wanganui-Taranaki match on June { 3. Permission was granted Ratana to play a Taranaki team at Ratana to-day.! It. was decided to inform the Ratana Club that their third grade team could I not be re-graded to the fourths. An application for reinstatement to the Rugby code by A. L. Watson was ' endorsed. The Junior Advisory Board intimated ; that they had approved of the sugges- j tion that, the annual seven-a-side tournament be held on the morning of June I . 3. an f j that a fee of 6d be charged for i admission. Entries will close on May 29, and the entrance fee was fixed at | |7s a team. The Board also intimated ! that Messrs Bromley. Howard and Glasgow had been chosen to act as selectors j for the junior representative teams. [ Mr Warden referred to the good j standard of Rugby seen in all grades j during the past two Saturdays. On | Spriggens Park, he said, bright games had been provided, and he complimented players and coaches on the improvement shown. The matches were played in a friendly spirit, there being an entire absence of ungentlemanly play. The backs and the forwards in all ' senior matches did their best to open up the game, and thia was to the liking ■ of the public. ’ Other speakers endorsed the chair- ' man’s remarks, and the committee de- ' | cided to express its appreciation of the advancement made by all 1 earns.
