MAN’S MASQUERADE
DRESSED AS A WOMAN CHANCE TO LEAVE COUNTRY DUNEDIN, May JI. In the Dunediu Police Court to day Herman Leonard Fullers appeared for .sentence on a charge of being an idle and disorderly person in that he dressed in woman’s apparel. Air. Mark Hanan, who appeared for accused, said he understood that Follcrs intended to return to his home in Aus tralia at the earliest opportunity. His father had been forwarding him remittances from Sydney, but in the last message accused received his father said he wanted him to go home and that he would not forward any more money unless he did return. Follers had been out, of employment for some months and in that period had received about £4O from his father. He had been before the Court on a previous occasion, but Mr. Hanan submitted that the offence was not of a nature that showed any inherent criminal tendencies.
Counsel said ’Follers’ action in dressing up seemed to have been a very foolish one, but he said he did it for a bet. His Worship said it might have been a harmless prank, or, considering the company Follers had been keeping, it might have been of a vicious nature or calculated to have an evil effect, on the public. However, as accused wished to return to his father, he would be given an opportunity of doing so and the case would stand adjourned for a month, on condition that accused was of good behaviour and was under the supervision of the probation officer. If he left the country, well and good.
