FOOTBALL At Raetihi on Saturday Pirates beat Hukaroa by .16 to 12. Pirates kicked off and Hukaroa came with a good rush to half way and to Pirates’ line, where R. Wilson scored under, the posts. G. Haitana failed to connect. In a few minutes Pirates had to force down. Play was kept in the Pirates’ territory and they had to force twice. Hukaroa threw the ball about in good style and took every advantage of the wind. Hukaroa were-given a penalty kick which Stevens failed to put over the bar. Pirates then took the play into their opponents’ territory, but Wikohika saved. Play was taken into Hukaroa’s twenty-five, where a free kick was given Pirates. C. Thomas took it. Hukaroa cleared, but Pirates came again and a free kick was given them and this time McLeod scored, making 3 all. Hukaroa rushed the play into the Pirates’ half-way, where Haitana kicked a fine goal, making the score 6 to 3. Pirates then started pressing hard, and J. Walters scored, which AfcLeod converted, making the total 8 to 6 at half time. Shortly after half-time Pirates began pressing, and Hukaroa had to force. McLeod scored near the corner and connected, making the score 13 to 6 in Pirates’ favour. Pirates took advantage of the wind, and pressed hard. A penalty kick was given Hukaroa and G. Haitana put the leather over, making the score 13 to 9. Hukaroa then pressed hard and play went down to the Pirates* line where Barakat scored, but G. Haitana failed to convert, leaving the score 13 to 12. Play was now very fast and up and down the fiedl. Chisholm for Pirates, scored at the corner, but McLeod failed to convert. Pirates kept going strong and Hukaroa had to again force down. Hukaroa backs came away and were nearly over, but could not manage to score and the final was 16 to 12. AL Thomson gave every satisfaction with the whistle. In the junior division Rangataua beat Raetihi at Rangataua by 8 to 0. GENERAL Hard frosts were experienced during the week-end. On Alonday several taps were cracked and the plumber was kept busy repairing pipes and taps, the work of the frost. Ou Friday afternoon and Saturday there was a slight fall of snow at Horopito.
