RUGBY AFFAIRS The Taihapo Rugby Union met on Monday evening, the president, Mr J. Quirk, presiding over a satisfactory attendance. The secretary reported that Mr Young, secretary of the Wanganui Rugby Union had stated that it was proposed to make arrangements for a trial match between Taihapo and Rangicikei to be played at Marton on either May 20 or May 27, and the par ent body would like to know which ol these dates suited the Taihapo Union. The meeting decided in favour of May 27 and the secretary was instructed Io advise the Wanganui Union accordingly. The team to represent Wanganui against Taranaki on June 3 will be selected after the trial match. The Hautapu Club applied for the re classification of AV. Currie from senior to junior. The United Club also made application for D. Erskine and P. Moliett to be re-classified from senior to junior. As Mr C. E. Kelly, one of the re-classi-fication committee, was not present, it was decided,*on the motion of Messrs Nicholls and McDonald, *o hold the matter over until the next meeting. The United Club asked for a ruling concerning the re-classification of players. The secretary was instructed to reply that the matter would be carefully considered by the re-classification •committee and a reply forwarded following the next meeting of the management committee. Mr Schofield reported that Mr Frank Hamill had offered to donate a medal to the most improved junior players for the season. The offer was accepted with thanks. It was decided that a benefit match bo played at the end of the first round, the proceeds to be devoted to the Injured Players > Fund. It was further resolved that the charge for admission to the match be fixed at one shilling. The draw for next Saturday, May 16, was announced as follows: Seniors: Old Boys v. Pirates, No. 1 ground, at 2.45 p.m. Huia v. United, No. 2 ground, at 2.45 p.m. Hautapu a bye. Juniors: Pirates v. Hautapu, No. 1 ground, at 1.30 p.m. Utiku v. Mangaweka, at Utiku, at 2 p.m. United a bye. . Third grade: Hautapu v. High School, No. 2 ground, at 12 noon. SCHOOL AFFAIRS The first regular meeting of the Taihape District High School Committee was held on Monday evening, when Mr E. Loader occupied the chair. The chairman webeomed Rev. H. Harris, a new member of the committee. In responding, Mr Harris said he would do his best to further the interests of the school. The meeting placed on record its appreciation of the past services rendered by Mr M. Jarvis. A letter was received from Mr E. H. McCormick, son of Mr W. J. H. McCormick, of Taihape, expressing his gratitude to the committed and householders for the resolution passed by them congratulating him on gaining a post-graduate scholarship, and for the good wishes accompanying the resolution. He still remembered very affectionately his years at the Taihape School and would like to take the opportun ity of wishing the school, the staff, and the commitlee every success. A letter was received from the Taihape Borough Council stntiug that i* had approved of the work of constructing a water channel to greatly minimise the present nuisance caused by the water flowing into the school ground. After a brief discussion concerning the finances of the committee, it was decided to write 'to the Board renewing the application for subsidies withheld by the Department. Dental Clinic Mr J. Elliott, inspector of dental clinics, was in Taihapo on Monday and briefly addressed the Taihape School Committee on matters pertaining to dental clinics. He said that in future the cost of the material used at the dental clinic would have to be borne by the local people, ins,cad of the Government, as had been the ease in the past. This would mean that the dental clinic committee would have to find an additional £3O per annum. The local committee was authorised to make a charge not exceeding five shillings for each child treated. If the charge could not bo met the child would still receive treatment.
