Claiming that tho betting system in use on Australian racecourses tended to discourage the big bettor from investing on the totalisator, an authority who has studied systems of betting stated last week that he opposed any introduction of tho Australian system into New Zealand. His remarks had reference to a cablegram from Sydney which stated that Mr O. S. Watkins, president of the New Zealand Racing Conference, was impressed with the Randwick totalisator innovation of straight-out and place betting, and indicated that he might propose a similar practice on New Zealand courses. Tho authority stated that Aus ralia had a system whereby dividends wore paid out on the first three horsesi In New Zealand payment, was made on only the first, two.
