INSUFFICIENT INCOME
UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD DELIBERATIONS OF CABINET SEARCH OF WAYS AND MEANS SUPPLEMENTARY ASSISTANCE [ Per Press Association. ] CHRISTCHURCH, Alay 11. The Alinistcr for Labour, Hon 8. G. Smith, to-day informed the Christchurch Unemployment Committee that the Unemployment Board’s financial position was serious. The total income from the levy and the subsidy from the Consolidated 1 uml was £1.200,000. At present, under tho No. 5 Scheme, the cost to the Board was £50.000 a w *ck. If this rate continues for 39 weeks the Board would exceed the total by £750,000. At present a committee of Cabinet was considering ways and means of finding money to enable the Board to do something supplementary to what it was doing.
